Is NBC's cafeteria racist?

Questlove of the Roots posted this picture of the menu at NBC’s cafeteria to his Twitter yesterday while on his lunch break from “Late Night with Jimmy Fallon.”

He captioned the photo “Hmmm… HR?”

  1. Best part about this is it was automatically thought to be racist and yet the woman who made the menu is in fact African American........classic!!!! so quick to find something racist are we not?

  2. I'm African American and I do not consider this racist. My attitude is the same as the lady who chose the menu. I like the menu and am glad it was offered. Would be great if it was offered all of the time!!

  4. What is "Soul Food"? How would Black America feel if White America decided that they created "Soul Food" as well? Fried Chicken, Black Eyed Peas, Corn Bread, Greens, Sweet Potatoes, Macaroni & Cheese, Ham Hocks, Chitlins', etc. This is our signature and we should be proud to serve it during Black History Month and any other day of the week.

  5. Hell yell its racist!! The sad thing is that there are black employees that will not speak up guest willing to appear on Jimmy Fallons Show. It shows what white people really think of our heritage. When will we learn!! That's why we need our our network!!

  6. I didn't find it to be racist...This is definitely something I would eat and enjoy at the same time. Everywhere you look; TV stations, newspapers, locally and abroad, are all taking advantage of being named or included as supporters for African American month. Thank you Lord for recognizing us as a race of people 365 days and not just 28 days out of the year!

  7. Why isn't the Brotha with the education and the time to write this crap not down in the under developed neighborhoods making themselves available as a "BIG BROTHER" to just one child and light the the way for them for a solid education instead of always trying to capture the attention of our young people to find fault in everything but not using the time to fix our own. I am so tired of reading BS that I am suppose to feel ashamed of myself if I don't support it. our young people should be using every second of their young lives to move forward in thought and deed. Rather than living a life of someone embedded in being concerned with who is not giving or doing something for me. Teach them the law which is there so that when they are being discriminated against get a lawyer and sue, not feel put down because someone has a menu that we claim as soul food or feel offended when someone says it is not soul food, everyone eats it. In the military we serve all those foods that are mention by the author in "all" of our dining facilities during Afro American month and are damn proud of it. Try coming on one of our installations and talk that mess to our Black brothers and sisters and see what the reply would be.

  8. I don't find anything wrong with it. It is what we as African Americans eat. At my old job the African Americans would plan lunch for the employees on a day in February and the company paid for it. We cooked African American foods and the other races loved it. The Hispanics did the same on Cinco De Mayo. We have to stop being so negative and see the positive side of life!

  10. When I first heard about this menu issue, I thought "are they serious what's wrong with that?" It sounded good to me. I remember back in Elem. School those items were placed on the menue for Black History Month. It wasn't racist back then...it was good and the cafateria staff was all African American. We couldnt wait for the Fried Chicken, Candid Yams, String Beans, etc. People that think its racist, I wish they would understand we have bigger fish to fry(no pun intended). Happy Black History Month!!!!

  11. THESE TYPES OF FOOD CAME MAINLY FROM THE SOUTH, IF ANYTHING THIS IS A SOUTHERN DISH, AND THAT MAKES THIS MENU DIVERSE. THERE ARE A LOT OF ETHNIC PEOPLE FROM THE SOUTH, POOR AND RICH WHO RAISED CHICKENS AND PLANTED GREENS, TOMATOES, OKRA, CORN, PIGS, GOATS, AND THIS WAS ALL THEY HAD TO EAT. SO CALL IT WHAT YOU WANT, AND USE IT HOW YOU WISH, WE WILL ALWAYS EAT THESE TYPE FOODS AND OTHER TYPES. BUT WE NEED TO FIND OUT HOW THEY ORIGINATED AND WHY PEOPLE WANT TO PUT LABLES ON OR GIVE FOOD A RACE. I LIKE THE TASTE OF GREEN BUT MAKE MINE MUSTARD (LOL) OKAY I'LL EAT COLLARDS TOO...
